In this time

In this time of isolation, quarantining and social distancing, I have found that my screen time has increased significantly. Prior to everything shutting down, I taught dance classes, worked with clients on their movement skills, and directed rehearsals, all of which occurred in a physical space, without a screen. And not only that, but those activities required me to be standing, walking, dancing, squatting, and sitting, in various combinations, leading to a very movement-filled week. Now, teaching class and working with clients involves sitting in front of a screen, with occasional demonstration and movement. But not nearly the variety I was getting before. And my body can feel it.

In light of that, I’ve made it a goal to at least have some kind of movement every weekday — a dance class, personal workout, teaching a movement class, going on a hike, etc. These don’t at all make up for the seated screen time I might have for the rest of the week, but, I’m practicing some self-compassion and not beating myself up about it :) This past week was the first time I put my plan into action, and I am pleased to say that I did get some movement every day, and it felt great. Granted, it was super hard (I struggle with motivation), but my body is happier, which makes me happy!

If you are looking for ways to move this week, I’m teaching three classes that might be of interest. These classes occur at the same days/times weekly, so if you can’t join in this week, you can always try next week!

  • Mondays 9:30-10:30am — Intermediate Ballet Class

  • Mondays 2:00-3:00pm — Movement Class (for mobility, breathing, strength, etc — not a dance class)

  • Thursdays 12:00-1:00pm — Movement Class (same style as Monday)

Classes are all Arizona time (GMT-7). Please visit Online Classes or email me for more information! And if you can’t make it, try adding a bit more movement into each day, even if that just means vacuuming (a great full-body movement) :)
